I've always been a bit obsessed with wearing things no one else would have, or at least that no one else would think to pair together. When I first assembled this outfit it was to meet a girlfriend out for dinner on the LES (the destination was San Marzano—$7 Burrata? Yes, please.) and outings like that are always when I'm feeling my most adventurous. I knew I wanted to wear the shirt dress but found it difficult to style it so it wasn't too heavy (for example, as a long top over leather leggings) or too risqué (as a dress alone—that slit!). The happy medium was to add a pair of fun "mock suspender" tights that added interest and a bit of modesty, though the slit kept things daring.

The cherry on top has to be that caged clutch. Nasty Gal tends to be a bit hit or miss for me, but the second I saw that clutch online I knew I had to have it. It's surprisingly functional and very durable, not to mention a guaranteed conversation piece.

There are two staples in this outfit, one of which might surprise you. The obvious one is the knee-high boot, which, since purchasing in December, I've managed to wear enough to need them spruced up at the cobbler twice. (I wear them with EVERYTHING.) The second staple might surprise you: the bib necklace. I know! It's sort of loud and definitely a statement—not normally my sort of thing in the jewelry department—but it pairs so well with all things collared (and if you know me, you know I own a LOT of button-down collared items) and can turn a sloppy chambray shirt into a put-together ensemble. I love it.

Thanks for stopping by!
