KATCH STUDIOS

This look was shot while in Edmonton for Rigoletto with Edmonton Opera.
Location: The Moth Cafe

Truthfully, when I first shot this look with Kat of Katch Studios, I wasn’t sure if it would become a fashion post. We were about to get a yummy lunch after a morning spent shooting and I was more hungry than I was interested in accessorizing. (I think it says something that Kat shot these around the counter where I was about to order. 😂) I posted a boomerang and thought that was that. But when I saw recently that these overalls dropped to half price, I had to alert you guys!

I’m one of those people who doesn’t think overalls ever went out of style. (You may remember a post about them from nearly 3 years ago!) In my opinion, the key to overalls is and always has been fit over trendiness; those slouchy, boxy boyfriend overalls might be “in”, but they’re of no use to me if they do nothing for my body. Thus, when I spotted this fun and on-trend variation on a favorite classic, I crossed my fingers as I added them to my shopping basket, hoping they’d look as good on me as they did the model.

As I said in that original overalls blog post, if you have any curves (as I do), you want overalls to truly sit at the waist. Oversized or slouchy silhouettes may work for jeans and sweaters, but when it’s a full body affair like overalls or a jumpsuit, they’re not you’re friend. I’m happy to report this adorable pair not only met but exceeded my expectations. They sit at the waist like a pair of comfy trousers and have a smooth front (gotta love a side zipper!). With that perfect amount of softness and stretch to the denim, they’re legit SUPER comfortable. Also, if you haven’t given the wide leg cut + cropped hem operation a try yet, you may be surprised at how flattering (and comfy!) that combo is. The ruffle straps add a fun and feminine flair, and they can be worn straight or criss-crossed across your back. (I prefer criss-cross because the straps are less likely to fall off my shoulders.) I’m just in love with these and get compliments every time I wear them.

The overalls comeback has picked up major steam in the last few seasons and they have no sign of stopping anytime soon. Have you hopped on board the overalls train yet? If so, what’s your favorite pair and why?

Thanks for stopping by!
